Kids Making a Difference…Kids with Heart!
We have had the opportunity to meet so many children in our community who are inspirational, compassionate and caring. Jacob’s Heart is pleased to highlight some of the great kids who are making a significant difference in the lives of our children.
Meet Santa Catalina Lower School!
The kids at Santa Catalina helped by developing “Smile Bags”. These bags are a total treat for the Jacob’s Heart kids and are filled with reading and activity books, games, stuffed animals and small toys.
Logan and Emily decided to hold a Lemonade Stand to raise funds for Jacob’s Heart. Logan’s Kindergarten teacher encouraged him to help other people, and it was his idea to serve lemonade on a warm day. Emily was the planner of the event and was happy that people would still donate for Jacob’s Heart even if they didn’t want the lemonade.
Logan’s holding the box full of nickels, quarters and dollars that amounted to over $100!
Meet Girl Scout Troop 1496!
This wonderful group of girls in Troop 1496 of Santa Cruz created “Smile Bags” for Jacob’s Heart children. The bags were filled with donated gifts of small toys and special activities for children who have long stays in the hospital. The items were small enough for boys and girls to have something to play with while in their hospital beds.
Meet Karissa!
Karissa lives in Manteca and has never even been to Jacob’s Heart; yet, she chose to do her Senior Project by fundraising for children with cancer. Karissa conducted a Pancake Breakfast that raised over $1,000 for Jacob’s Heart in just one morning. Karissa, her family, teacher mentor, and high school buddies worked together to make this one of Jacob’s Heart’s most successful fundraisers.
This Brownie Troop 11133 supported funds for Jacob’s Heart by raising $571 selling hot chocolate and delicious snacks at their school, Main Street Elementary in Soquel.
Meet Almost Chaos!
Almost Chaos, a band of three young musicians, contacted Jacob’s Heart when they were requested to play at the Crow’s Nest in Santa Cruz. These phenomenally talented teenagers drew a huge crowd on a Tuesday night, and rocked the house! All proceeds were donated to Jacob’s Heart. Their Rock-and-Roll music and talent easily persuaded the audience to dip deep into their pockets for Jacob’s Heart.
Meet Carly!
Carly, a St. Francis High School student from Watsonville, donated one of her beautiful mandalas to Jacob’s Heart. An extremely talented artist, Carly began drawing mandalas when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Carly used the artwork of mandalas, a spiritual healing form of art, to deal with the experience. With a generous and caring heart, she donated one of her pieces to inspire children to use art for self-expression. Her mandala is hung on the wall at Jacob’s Heart.
Meet the 11102 Girl Scout Troop!
These children brainstormed on creating solutions in their community for problems associated in health, education, family, and neighborhoods. They concentrated on eating for healthy living, keeping your environment clean and healthy, and improving your future through education. Artwork was displayed at conference held at the Monterey Institute of International Studies and provided community awareness for Jacob’s Heart, education about volunteerism, and the power behind kids helping kids.
