Meet Our Founder

It all started on February 6, 1998, when Lori Butterworth learned that a friend’s five-year-old son, Jacob, had been diagnosed with leukemia, or bone marrow cancer.

As the founder and former Executive Director of Jacob’s Heart, Lori designed, implemented, and secured sustainable funding for innovative programs that provide emotional, financial and practical support to families of children with cancer.

Lori’s many awards for leadership at Jacob’s Heart include Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network “Use Your Life Award” which included a $100,000 grant and three featured appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

After Jacob’s Heart, Lori has founded two award-winning, nationally recognized non-profit organizations, which have dramatically improved care for thousands of children with life-threatening conditions and their families. She continues to inspire and help in many ways!
